Izutsu (井筒).

The print shows the "shite" of the Noh play Izutsu: the spirit of Ki no Aritsune`s daughter who, still in love with Ariwara no Narihira, rises from her burial mound at Ariwara-dera. She bows beside a minimalist ink outline of the well where the pair once compared their height. She now wears Narihira`s lavender kariginu gilded with wisteria-fan motifs and dances in his tall tate-eboshi, scarlet scabbard at her hip; autumn pampas grass (susuki) hints at the play`s "first-moon" setting.
