The kabuki actor Kataoka Ichizō I as Shitōbei from the play "Ōmi Genji Senjin Yakata", first written for the Bunraku puppet theater and then adapted for Kabuki,
debuting in 1770 at the Naka no Theater in Ôsaka.
It centers on the conflict between the Toyotomi and Tokugawa clans during the Siege of Ôsaka.
To avoid censorship by the Shogunate, the story was set in an earlier period, and the characters` names were changed to disguise their identities.
