(Mikiri no Fuji, 見切の不二).

The print depicts a sign painter at work inside a riverside boat inn, carefully lettering a signboard advertising different types of boats. Beyond him, Mount Fuji appears through the wooden lattice of a removed shoji screen, its familiar silhouette divided into a series of small framed views.
Entitled Mikiri no Fuji (“A Partial View of Mount Fuji”), the composition reveals Hokusai`s playful approach to perspective and framing. The monumental mountain is glimpsed through an ordinary scene of everyday life, while the lattice and the partially completed lettering introduce a subtle visual play on the idea of something being “cut off” or only partly seen.
